The Free Market Medical Association (FMMA) proudly presents the Be a Beacon Award each year to two extraordinary champions of the free market movement. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have demonstrated unparalleled dedication to advancing the mission and vision of the FMMA.

Beacon Award Winners

Selected by the FMMA founders, award recipients are trailblazers – those who have gone above and beyond to promote and support free-market principles in healthcare. Dwayne A. Schmidt, MD, FACC

Dr. Dwayne A. Schmidt is a board-certified interventional cardiologist and a distinguished leader in advancing free-market healthcare principles. As co-founder of CardioVascular Health Clinic, Advanced CardioVascular Solutions, and Advanced Surgical and Research Solutions, Dr. Schmidt has been instrumental in delivering high-quality, transparent cardiac care across Oklahoma.

A native of Clinton, Oklahoma, Dr. Schmidt earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, followed by a research and interventional fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Schmidt's commitment to patient-centered care led him to establish innovative healthcare models that prioritize transparency and affordability. Through his clinics, he offers comprehensive cardiac services, including management of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, heart failure, rhythm disorders, and advanced cardiac imaging.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Schmidt has contributed significantly to cardiovascular research and education. He was a founder of Oklahoma Cardiovascular Associates, the Oklahoma Foundation for Cardiovascular Research, the Oklahoma Cardiovascular Research Group, and the Oklahoma Heart Hospital at Mercy.

Dr. Schmidt's dedication to reforming healthcare delivery aligns with the mission of the Free Market Medical Association.
